New Year's Resolutions!

Yes, I have yet again made some resolutions for the new year. I usually make some every year and I usually fail them! But this year I really want to make an effort to keep them. I do say that every year though..... Because I usually fail at keeping my resolutions I have picked some this year that I think will be easier to keep. Not the usual "get fit" or "save more money" which are quite hard to keep because the motivation just usually isn't there and they are quite unspecific. So this year I have gone for quite specific resolutions and some that I feel I am more motivated to keep, just because I'm interested in them! So here goes... Do more DIY! I have an ever growing Pinterest DIY board full of fun and great ideas, but I just never seem to sit down and do them. I hope that having this blog where I can share my progress will help me in being motivated to tick some pins off my board. Take up yoga or pilates. This is a more specific version of the "

Review: Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Well, I ended up picking Fangirl for my first review here. And I am glad I did, because I liked it, but not so much that I have nothing to say about it. This review will contain some spoilers, so beware!! I gave the book 3½ stars on Goodreads, and I must say, from everything I have heard about this book, I honestly expected to like it better. I thought it was good, but not fantastic. And here's why: The plot: Twins go off to college and while one of them, Wren, takes it as a chance to start over and "liberate" herself from her twin sister, the other, Cath, takes this as an insult and only grudgingly begins this new phase of her life as an independent being. I thought this was an interesting story, especially as I could see myself in some of Cath's character traits, like the social anxiety and tendency to be a hermit. But it just felt like that part of the story got clouded by the many other story lines going on, like the dad and the mom, who each had separate st

Black Friday Unboxing Book Haul!

Image
So Black Friday happened...And I got swept up in it! My favourite web bookshop had 20% off EVERYTHING and I went a little crazy! The box actually arrived a week ago, but I have been so busy, and I didn't want to unbox it until I had time to do a post about it. And the time has finally come! I had actually forgotten most of the books I ordered, so this was almost like Christmas.  I ordered 8 books and pretty much all of them are some that I have seen Booktubers on Youtube talk about recently, so I am quite excited to start reading them. I have only recently started buying books I haven't read before. I used to use the library a lot, but that meant waiting a long time for new books to become available, especially if they were popular and there was a waitlist. But as I grow older, I grow more impatient, and now purchase books on a regular basis. So let's begin with the books! First off is "A Monster Calls" by Patrick Ness, illustrated by Jim Kay.   I

Picking a book for review

I mentioned in my first post that I would like to do book reviews on here and the time has come to pick the book for the first one. And man, is it hard! I want to pick a good one, so it will be a positive experience for everyone involved, but I don't want to do one I have already read. I think reviews should be done fairly quickly after the read so your thoughts are still "fresh". After a while you know that you thought the book was good, but you forget the specifics that made you like it. And knowing if a book is good before you read it is obviously quite hard. You can read other peoples reviews of it, but it is so hard to know if you would like it based on someone else's opinion. Even if you generally like some of the same books, some books are just so hit-or-miss for me that I might hate it, even though people with similar reading tastes to mine love it. I also want to pick a stand-alone as beginning with a series seems a big commitment....But boy, is it hard to

Moving house!

I'm looking to move house! Or apartment, as it is. There are many reasons for this desire to move but chief among them are neighbours . I'm currently sat here listening to my upstairs neighbours clunking around in high heels, and this is not a rare event. I'm aware that I could just go up and kindly ask her to not walk around in shoes indoors, but I'm a shy person, and it's not just the shoes. It's the TV at 2 in the morning, it's the slamming of doors, the shouting matches with her boyfriend and running down the stairs like a clumsy elephant. Now it's not all her fault. Our building is old and sound travels extremely well. I can also hear the grandfather clock of my downstairs neighbour and the cutlery on plates at dinner time of my next-door neighbours...! So this is one of the many reasons I would like to move house. I know you can't get rid of neighbours unless you get an actual house, but that is not within my budget range, so I am just hoping

Travel tips!

As I mentioned last time, I am going on a trip soon (woohoo!) and I thought I would share my best travel tips with you. They are mostly common sense, but I think we all know that sometimes, when packing, common sense takes a break. So I hope these tips are helpful, even if they just serve as  a reminder of that very good idea you had to bring something, but then you forgot to put it on your packing list. The tips: Scan all your travel documents and send them to your email. That way you can always access them and get policy numbers etc. off them. Bring a copy with you too, in another bag than where you keep the originals, as the internet is not always available....Shock! Use one of those pouch/wallets that go under your clothes to keep your ATM card and any big wads of cash in. And go somewhere private when you need to get something out of it! It's a hazzle to lose your money and/or your card! And yes, it is SO touristy and lame, but the security is better than your purse or b

The art of limitation

So...I've decided to start a blog. But what will it be about? There are so many topics to write about that it's very hard to choose just one or a few. But in order for this blog to be even somewhat coherent I do think there should be some limits as to the topics. SO what options should  I go for? My daily life (which is quite boring TBH), current events, book reviews, health (probably not, because...Chocolate!....and laziness), my beauty fails (what is the difference between BB creme and foundation anyway?), cooking, DIY, travel...So many options! I guess I will start with what interests me most and what is currently in my life. Which would be books and travel at the moment. A lot of people do book reviews and though it seems like an "easy" place to start (you have something to talk about whitout having to cast about for a subject) I think it is harder than it looks. Most reviews I have seen recently only talk about books they like. And that is all good and well,
