Another Library Book Haul

It’s a good job libraries are free, because otherwise I would be broke!

I went for a little browse around my library because I had a few books to return. And it’s a rare day that I manage to leave the library without (a few) new books in hand.

This time I browsed with no particular plan in mind and I came across a couple of books that took my fancy.

First I found “Mistborn” by Brandon Sanderson. I’ve heard Regan at PeruseProject rave about this series and this author and I have been meaning to get around to reading a book by him. So when I came across this one I decided to pick it up. It’s about world ruled by a supreme lord and two unlikely companions planning the ultimate revolt. That’s really as much as I can get from any synopsis, but a classic fantasy story like this should be interesting and it comes highly recommended, so I will give it a go.

Next I came across Margaret Atwood’s “Oryx and Crake”. Again the synopsis is extremely vague, but I have been meaning to read more Atwood, and I figured this would do as well as any other of her books. It seems to be a dystopian novel about a future where almost all of mankind has been evaporated by money grabbing corporations and we follow one man and his journey to come to terms with life, or what’s left of it.

Then I found “A Countess Below Stairs” by Eva Ibbotson, and this intrigued me because I really love Downtown Abbey and things like that, and this book seems to hit that mark. It’s about a Russian countess, Anna, who has to flee to London after the Revolution. In order to survive she must say goodbye to her former life of luxury and instead become a servant to an aristocratic family in her new country. She does this without complaining, but then the young Earl returns home…It sounds like a fun period piece with romance and ambience and I’m excited to read it.

After having browsed through the fiction, I remembered that I wanted to pick up some cookbooks. I have been in a funk lately, when it comes to food, so I need some new inspiration. I picked up a variety of books, some plain recipe books and some with a specific angle to food, like a healthy gut or packing your lunch. So I hope to gather a lot of inspiration from these books and kickstart my enjoyment of food and cooking again.

Have you been to your library lately? What did you pick up?
