Spring Cleaning Book Tag
I saw this on Youtube on the channel Bookables and thought it sounded like a fun idea. Spring is still making up its mind where I live (it snowed a few days ago!), so I hope I can entice it to come out and play with this tag!
1. The struggle of getting started: a book/book series that you have struggled to begin because of its size.
I am not often daunted by the size of books as I don’t mind starting long books, because I have the hope that they will be so good I won’t notice the length. I often struggle to finish long books though, because eventually I will feel like I have been reading the same book/story forever. This is also the reason I very rarely marathon series. I just get bored of the universe/story after hundreds of pages, even if I am enjoying it. This is the struggle I am currently having with “Mistborn” by Brandon Sanderson. I am really enjoying it, but it is just soooooo long and I am reaching the point where I just want it to finish!
2. Cleaning out the closet: a book and/or book series you want to unhaul.
I am pretty good at getting rid of books that I don’t plan to ever read again, so I don’t really have any teetering on the edge of my shelves. The last series I unhauled was probably “Between the Lines” by Tammara Webber. I enjoyed the series, but I just don’t think I will pick it up again.
3. Opening windows and letting fresh air in: a book that was refreshing.
“A Countess Below Stairs” by Eva Ibbotson. This was just so much fun, and well-written and I really appreciated it, coming as it did, in what was a very long reading slump.
4. Washing out sheet stains: a book you wish you could rewrite a certain scene in.
“My Heart and Other Black Holes” by Jasmine Warga. I would change the ending, as I think the message here is not the healthiest to put out there.
5. Throwing out unnecessary knick-knacks: a book in a series that you didn’t feel was necessary.
“City of Fallen Angels” by Cassandra Clare. And I presume the other two that came after that. The trilogy was done! It ended, everything was wrapped up nicely. And then lo and behold, this is making money, let’s crank out another THREE books! Ugh…
6. Polishing the doorknobs: a book that had a clean finish.
“Salt to the Sea” by Ruta Sepetys. We hear about all the main characters, and while some of them didn’t get the ending I was hoping for, it was still tied up and finished.
7. Reaching to dust the fan: a book that tried too hard to relay a certain message.
“The Road to Jerusalem” by Jan Guillou. I felt like it was super preachy and everything that happened relied heavily on God interfering.
8. The tiring yet satisfying finish of spring cleaning: a book series that was tiring yet satisfying to get through.
It’s been a long while since I have loved a series enough to actually finish it. I finished “The Grisha” trilogy by Leigh Bardugo a while ago, and that was definitely a satisfying feeling. I honestly don’t think I would have finished it if I didn’t happen to already have had the books at home.
