Moving house!

I'm looking to move house! Or apartment, as it is. There are many reasons for this desire to move but chief among them are neighbours. I'm currently sat here listening to my upstairs neighbours clunking around in high heels, and this is not a rare event. I'm aware that I could just go up and kindly ask her to not walk around in shoes indoors, but I'm a shy person, and it's not just the shoes. It's the TV at 2 in the morning, it's the slamming of doors, the shouting matches with her boyfriend and running down the stairs like a clumsy elephant.

Now it's not all her fault. Our building is old and sound travels extremely well. I can also hear the grandfather clock of my downstairs neighbour and the cutlery on plates at dinner time of my next-door neighbours...! So this is one of the many reasons I would like to move house. I know you can't get rid of neighbours unless you get an actual house, but that is not within my budget range, so I am just hoping for a more soundproof apartment this time around! But there are a number of other things that I am also looking for in a new place.

  1. A washing machine! Where I'm from there are usually communal washing machines for apartment blocks and that's nice and all, but I am so sick of having to book a time and then staying in for the couple of hours it takes to do the laundry. Not to mention having to drag my laundry down the stairs and across the yard in all sorts of weather! A washing machine in the apartment would mean I could just toss the laundry in whenever needed, the spots wouldn't set and get crusty and I wouldn't have to put on pants in order to do laundry. Dare to dream....
  2. A  bathtub! Not many apartments have bathtubs where I am from. I suppose it's considered wasteful and a space-stealer (is that a word?) and I'm all for saving the environment, but sometimes you just need to soak and a shower just won't do!
  3. A bigger kitchen! I don't cook gourmet meals for 50 people or anything like that, but sometimes I just long for a kitchen where one soiled plate does not make the whole room look cluttered. And for a kitchen that isn't decorated in 1970s brown...
  4. A patio or terrace where you can enjoy a little fresh air and maybe grow a plant or two. My current one is shut in by brick walls and window panes, and what's the point then? I just use it for storage space for all the pots, pans and Tupperware containers that won't fit in my tiny kitchen...

Furthermore I would like to find a place that's at least as big as my current one (as it is cluttered already), not too expensive, close to the city centre but at the same time quiet and close to the park or a green space.

This is quite a task that I have set myself...I might have to compromise on some of the criteria. But I fell like they are all the most important one...How will I choose??!
