5 Books on Monsters

Image
I’m kicking off a new series in which I will give 5 book recommendations based on a subject. And in honor of Halloween we are kicking off with monsters. I don’t read a lot of super scary books, but I still managed to find 5 books with monsters, although some of these monsters perhaps don’t fit the conventional monster stereotype. From "A Monster Calls" This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab This is part one of a duology. The story takes place in a dystopian version of our world. A city is divided between a corporation that deal out their version of justice, and a mob boss using monsters for his own gains. In this world monsters are created by bad actions - you hurt someone, you spark the creation of a monster. Both sides of the city are trying to control things in their own way, but when Kate and August get caught in the middle, the unstable equilibrium threatens to topple. Kate is the daughter of the mob boss, and she wants nothing more than to be as tough as he...

Things I Love Tag: Book Edition

Image
I’ve been wanting to do a fun little tag for a while, because I think it’s a fun way to go over a few of the books you’ve read. So I found this tag on Tumblr and thought it looked like fun. I found the tag here , but I don’t know who created the original.  The only rule seems to be that you can’t use the same book twice! So here it goes… One quote:  “It’s against the rules of humanity to believe there is nothing we can do”. From "Finnikin of the Rock" by Melina Marchetta Two OTPs:  SPOILER ALERTS!!  Katniss/Peeta from "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins and "Lucas/Jacqueline" from Easy by Tammara Webber Three series:  His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman Harry Potter - J.K. Rowling (Obviously!) The Raven Cycle - Maggie Stiefvater (so exited for The Raven King to come out soon!) Four authors:  Jane Austen Erich Maria Remarque Charles Dickens Jean M. Auel (absolutely loved the Earth’s Children serie...

Review: Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor

I recently finished this book, which is the last book of the "Daughter of Smoke and Bone" trilogy by Laini Taylor. The first book of the series is called "Daughter of Smoke and Bone" and the second is called "Days of Blood and Starlight". I bought the entire series on a whim, because every booktuber on Youtube seemed to be raving about this series. The shop only had the two first in stock, though, so I started reading the series and then I debated whether or not to buy the last one, since the first book didn't really intrigue me that much. But I read the second one, because I already had it (and I have a hard time stopping in the middle of something) and about halfway through this really picked up for me. So I bought the third book to finish off the series.  Beware of a few spoiler-y bits below. Nothing too bad, but if you like going into a book "blind" stop reading here! The story was epic, including magic, monsters, angels and d...
