TBR Jar Review: Forever Amber by Kathleen Winsor (DNF)

As you can tell from the title I DNF’ed this book. The story was about a young girl in what I believe was 16th century England. The summary said the book would detail how she was left alone and penniless on the streets of London and how she rose above that and came to be the king’s mistress. It had all the makings of a trashy period romance and I imagine it would have been almost like a “Gone With the Wind” in a different setting. And when I decided to pick up this book I felt like I was in the mood for just that. But moods change and once I had started this book I just wasn’t feeling it. At all. So I decided to put it down after just a few chapters.   What I did read was well written, but the main character of Amber really annoyed me. She reminded me of Lydia from “Pride and Prejudice”, petulant and selfish and feeling herself too good for her circumstances. DNF Review: The Little Friend by Donna Tartt

I started this book because I had heard so many good things about Donna Tartt's other books, especially “The Secret History” and “Goldfinch”. But this one was the first that came to my library, so I figured this would be equally good.   I recently did a post on why I find it SO hard to give up on a book even though I don’t like it. I decided that life is too short to waste precious reading time on books you are not really enjoying, and this book will be the victim of that determination! I’ve read 283 pages, just short of the halfway mark, and I just can’t get into it. Aside from the main plot point nothing has really happened yet, and that is just FAR too slow-moving for me!  The book is about a family in the American South. The son of the family dies under mysterious circumstances and more than 10 years later his youngest sister decides to try and find out what really happened. And that is pretty much the synopsis and pretty much everything that has happened so far....

My Trip to Morocco

So I just got back from my long-awaited trip to Morocco and I have a bunch of reviews, pictures and recommendations to share. There are quite a lot, so one blog post for all of it would be too little. I think I will make a little blog post for each city or place we visited so it will be easy and uncomplicated to search for any specific place. In this blog post I will focus on a few general things about Morocco, so here it goes: The trip I went on a group tour with G Adventures ( www.gadventures.com ), because I don’t enjoy traveling completely solo. This way is an easy way to travel because bookings of hotels and transport and some activities are already taken care of, and you have a number of fellow travellers at hand to share the experience. Of course, there are som downsides to traveling like this; some stops might not rock your boat and you might have wanted to stay longer in one place or gone somewhere completely different.
