Bookish Awards 2017

Image
This is based off of the Bookish Academy Awards Tag by BOOKadoodles . She changed the categories of the Oscars to fit books, but since I don’t really watch the Oscars I just decided to do this as a sort of “Best of 2017” run through. (I did delete a few of the more movie related questions, just so you know).  Categories/Questions:  Best Male Protagonist:  I like Sean Kendrick from “The Scorpio Races” by Maggie Stiefvater. He is loyal and steadfast, and while some think that boring, I really appreciate those traits, especially in this day and age of the brooding, “misunderstood” (but oftentimes quite manipulating and controlling) YA male “heroes”.  Best Female Protagonist: I really liked Anna from “A Countess Below Stairs” by Eva Ibbotson. She didn’t let life get her down, but took everything in her stride and fought for what she believed in in any way she could and truly cared for everyone in her life.  Best Plot Twist:  This goes t...

Rapid Fire Book Tag

I was looking for a fun tag to do, and this one seemed like a quick little thing, so I decided to do it. I know the rapid fire element sort of fails when you write your answers out and have time to think about them, but I promise I will do them as quickly and intuitively as possible.   The tag was created by GirlReading and you can see her video here :) Let’s get started! E-Book or Physical Book?  I love physical books! I just can’t get into digital books in any way, shape or form Paperback or Hardback? I don’t really have a preference, except that I HATE those tiny hardbacks where your arms get a workout just from trying to keep the book cracked all the way open. You know the ones! Online or In-Store Book Shopping? I mostly do online, simply because my book shops don’t really have a lot of the things I am looking for, but when I do come across a well-supplied book store there is nothing better than browsing the shelves for hours on end. Onli...

Netflix Book Tag

I figured it was about time I did something other than a review. Both to break up my feed and to get back into blogging again. As I’ve explained I have been quite busy lately and haven’t really devoted much time to my blog, but I am determined to get back into it and this tag sounded fun, so here goes! I first saw this video on Youtube at Lauren and the Books , so you can click here to see her video.  Recently Watched:The last book you finished reading. I finished “Delirium” just yesterday, as I am writing this (and wrote a review, like the good blogger I am (trying to be)). I didn’t really enjoy it that much, so I’ve decided to not continue the series, but you can read my review for more thoughts :)  2. Top Picks: A book/books that have been recommended to you based on a book you have previously read. This sounds a little bigheaded but I think I am the one in my circle of friends who reads the most, so I generally find my new books myself. I really can...

Fall Time Cozy Time Book Tag

Image
Autumn is here in full swing (and has been for a while) and it’s time to get cozy under the blankets with a (bunch of) good books! This is a fun tag created by Sam over at Sam’s Nonsense on Youtube. Her video is here ! But without further ado, let’s get into it.   Crunching Leaves: The world is full of color - choose a book that had reds/oranges/yellows on the cover Saw this on my shelves and thought it was perfect. “Mockingjay” by Suzanne Collins, the last book of the “Hunger Games” trilogy. I think we all know what this book is about by now, so I won’t say anything more about it.  Cozy Sweater - It's finally cold enough to don warm cozy clothing: what book gives you the warm fuzzies? Aside from “Harry Potter” I would say “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen. It’s a classic love story, and one of favorite reads. I’ve read it many times, but I always enjoy a reread.  Fall Storm: The wind is howling & the rain is pounding - choose your favori...

The chocolate book tag

I found this tag browsing on Tumblr a while ago, and while many seem to have done it, I can’t seem to find the original. But kudos to whoever made it because who doesn’t love books and chocolate? Dark Chocolate: (A book that covers a dark topic ([abuse, domestic violence, rape, loneliness, bullying, death, etc]) Easy by Tammara Webber. This book deals with attempted rape at college and how people are discouraged from reporting it by the authorities who ought to help them. If you are interested in the topic you can also watch the documentary “The Hunting Ground”. It should still be on Netflix.  White Chocolate: (Your favorite lighthearted/humorous read) The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets by Eva Rice. This book still deals with some heavy topics but there is just this feeling about it that I really enjoy. Set in 1950s England it deals with family, friendship and love.  Milk Chocolate: (A book that has a lot of hype that you’re dying to read) I try not to get...

Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag

Image
I saw this making the rounds on Booktube last year and I am sure it will again this year. And so I decided to get in on the action. This tag was co-created by ReadLikeWildfire  on Youtube, but I saw it first on SarawithoutanH .  So without further ado, let’s get started! 1. Best book you've read so far in 2016. Aside from my reread of Harry Potter (which doesn’t count as that wouldn’t be fair to other books!) I guess this has to be “ The Day of the Triffids ” by John Wyndham. I was pleasantly surprised when I read this, as I was reaching a point where I felt like nothing I read really interested me that much. But this book about an “alien” invasion and the fall out from it was so good, and I am definitely checking out more Wyndham soon.  2. Best sequel you've read so far in 2016. “Winter” By Marissa Meyer. This is the 4th and last book in “The Lunar Chronicles” and it was a kick-ass ending to a series that started out a little slow for me but defi...

New York Times By The Book Tag

This tag was created by Marie Berg from Youtube and it is basically based on The New York Times By the Book book, which again is based on a column in the Times. In this column any author being interviewed is asked these questions and they are great fun to answer, so why not spread it around? I’ve seen a number of people on Booktube doing the tag, and it seemed like fun, so here are my answers:  What book is on your nightstand now? Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I’ve slowly been re-reading the entire Harry Potter series this year.  What was the last truly great book you’ve read?  This probably has to be Winter, the last book of the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. It was just such a blast, and a great ending to a great series. The plot twisted and turned every which way and kept you guessing right until the end.  If you could meet any writer - dead or alive - who would it be? And what wold you want to know? Maybe J.K. Rowlin...
