Netflix Book Tag

I figured it was about time I did something other than a review. Both to break up my feed and to get back into blogging again. As I’ve explained I have been quite busy lately and haven’t really devoted much time to my blog, but I am determined to get back into it and this tag sounded fun, so here goes!

I first saw this video on Youtube at Lauren and the Books, so you can click here to see her video.
  1. Recently Watched:The last book you finished reading.

I finished “Delirium” just yesterday, as I am writing this (and wrote a review, like the good blogger I am (trying to be)). I didn’t really enjoy it that much, so I’ve decided to not continue the series, but you can read my review for more thoughts :)

2. Top Picks: A book/books that have been recommended to you based on a book you have previously read.

This sounds a little bigheaded but I think I am the one in my circle of friends who reads the most, so I generally find my new books myself. I really can’t think of any recommendations based on books I’ve read. I was recommended “The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden” by Jonas Jonasson a while ago but I didn’t really like it…

3. Recently Added: The last book you bought

“A Gathering of Shadows” by V.E. Schwab. This is the second book in the “Shades of Magic” series, and I loved the first one.

4. Popular on Netflix: Books that everyone knows about. (2 you’ve read and 2 you haven't read or have no interest in reading)

For 2 I’ve read I would go with “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins and “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen. Two very great books, with very interesting female characters.

For 2 books I’ve no intention of reading I would have to go with “Divergent” by Veronica Roth and “A Court of Thorns and Roses” by Sarah J Maas. I think I’ve just lost my taste for the standard dystopian YA novel when it comes to “Divergent”, which is probably also the reason I didn’t enjoy “Delirium” that much. I feel like a dystopian YA novel really needs something to set it apart and from what I’ve heard “Divergent” doesn’t really have that. As for “A Court of Thorns and Roses” I’ve heard so many bad things about it, that couple with the fact that I didn’t like “Throne of Glass” by the same author I have no interest in picking it up.

5. Comedies: A funny book

A Countess Below Stairs” by Eva Ibbotson. This book is a mix of Downton Abbey and Anastasia and while it’s not a comedic book as such, it’s just so much fun.

6. Dramas: A character who is a drama queen/king.

I never really like drama queens/kings so I tend to forget about them relatively quickly, but after a rummage through mys read-list on Goodreads I did come up with Min from “Why We Broke Up” by Daniel Handler. A drama queen if ever I saw one! Writing a novel length breakup letter after a relationship that lasted a month…

7. Animated: A book with cartoons on the cover

“Les Misérables” by Victor Hugo. The one with the drawing of the little girl.

8. Watch it again: A book/book series that you want to re-read

Well, always “Harry Potter” of course, but there are a number of books that stand rereading, like “The Hunger Games”, “His Dark Materials” by Philip Pullman, “Pride and Prejudice”, “All Quiet on the Western Front” by Erich Maria Remarque….all my favorites really.

9. Documentaries: A non-fiction book you’d recommend to everyone

The Myth of the Muslim Tide. Do Immigrants Threaten the West?” by Doug Saunders. Let’s get some facts into the debate

10. Action and Adventure: An action packed book

Wolf by Wolf” by Ryan Graudin. Alternate universe, Hitler in power, a motorcycle race, shapeshifting, a plot to kill the leader….Action from start to finish.

11. New Releases: A book that just came out or will be coming out soon that you can’t wait to read.

I usually get my books from the library so I try not to get too hyped for new releases as I have to wait a while to get my hands on them. I did just see a video on Hailey in Bookland’s channel about upcoming releases and in it she mentions “The Pearl Thief” by Elizabeth Wein, who has also written “Code Name Verity” and “Rose Under Fire”, two amazing books. So I guess I am looking forward to that one, although I’m a little apprehensive as it’s a prequel to “Code Name Verity” and I kind of think prequels are just milking it….but they can be good, so here to hoping!
