Getting my TBR under control...

Image
I am a bit of a Youtube junkie when it comes to TBR challenges. I love watching other people get their TBR under control and The Closet Unhaul series on BooksandLala's channel was some of my favorite content last year. Basically she had an entire closet full of books she had bought when she first started doing Youtube and hadn't gotten around to reading yet. So she would watch her hauls from the same month 2 years earlier and any books she hadn't read she would have to read or get rid of. Sadly she isn't really doing that anymore but I have found another creator who does something similar - Drinking By My Shelf does Balancing the Books and is all about balancing the books she brings onto her TBR and the books she removes from it (by reading or unhauling). Anyway...I love watching that type of video (if you have any recommendations please let me know) and I thought I would try something similar myself. I'm starting out slow because I'm super lazy and don't...

Rapid Fire Book Tag

I was looking for a fun tag to do, and this one seemed like a quick little thing, so I decided to do it. I know the rapid fire element sort of fails when you write your answers out and have time to think about them, but I promise I will do them as quickly and intuitively as possible.   The tag was created by GirlReading and you can see her video here :) Let’s get started! E-Book or Physical Book?  I love physical books! I just can’t get into digital books in any way, shape or form Paperback or Hardback? I don’t really have a preference, except that I HATE those tiny hardbacks where your arms get a workout just from trying to keep the book cracked all the way open. You know the ones! Online or In-Store Book Shopping? I mostly do online, simply because my book shops don’t really have a lot of the things I am looking for, but when I do come across a well-supplied book store there is nothing better than browsing the shelves for hours on end. Onli...

Fall Time Cozy Time Book Tag

Image
Autumn is here in full swing (and has been for a while) and it’s time to get cozy under the blankets with a (bunch of) good books! This is a fun tag created by Sam over at Sam’s Nonsense on Youtube. Her video is here ! But without further ado, let’s get into it.   Crunching Leaves: The world is full of color - choose a book that had reds/oranges/yellows on the cover Saw this on my shelves and thought it was perfect. “Mockingjay” by Suzanne Collins, the last book of the “Hunger Games” trilogy. I think we all know what this book is about by now, so I won’t say anything more about it.  Cozy Sweater - It's finally cold enough to don warm cozy clothing: what book gives you the warm fuzzies? Aside from “Harry Potter” I would say “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen. It’s a classic love story, and one of favorite reads. I’ve read it many times, but I always enjoy a reread.  Fall Storm: The wind is howling & the rain is pounding - choose your favori...

The chocolate book tag

I found this tag browsing on Tumblr a while ago, and while many seem to have done it, I can’t seem to find the original. But kudos to whoever made it because who doesn’t love books and chocolate? Dark Chocolate: (A book that covers a dark topic ([abuse, domestic violence, rape, loneliness, bullying, death, etc]) Easy by Tammara Webber. This book deals with attempted rape at college and how people are discouraged from reporting it by the authorities who ought to help them. If you are interested in the topic you can also watch the documentary “The Hunting Ground”. It should still be on Netflix.  White Chocolate: (Your favorite lighthearted/humorous read) The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets by Eva Rice. This book still deals with some heavy topics but there is just this feeling about it that I really enjoy. Set in 1950s England it deals with family, friendship and love.  Milk Chocolate: (A book that has a lot of hype that you’re dying to read) I try not to get...

#T5W: Characters You Are Most Like

This topic is going to be a bit hard, because the prompt clearly states that it is characters you are most like, not who you would LIKE to be like. It does allow you to pick individual character traits, though, so I guess that’s my loophole ;)  In no particular order, I would say I am most like:  Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series. I can definitely recognize myself in her work ethics, her crazy studying and always being on time with her homework. I was such a little goodie two-shoes in school, but I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. I had quite a stress free school life, because I was always on time with assignments, and when occasionally I would completely space out and forget something, the teachers would cut me some slack because of my stellar record. Life tips for you right there! Lyra from His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. As a kid I would make up stories constantly, like Lyra does. I even did writing with two of my friends, drea...

Bookish Academy Awards Tag

Image
This post in based on this video on Youtube, where BOOKadoodles has changed the categories for the Oscars to fit books. Which I think is an amazing idea! I think I changed a few of the categories just slightly, but hey-ho! Best Female Lead:  Queenie from Code Name Verity. SPOILER: She is just so brave and strong and amazing. Read the book and tell me you don’t feel the same! I dare you! Best Male Lead:  Henry Smart from A Star Named Henry. Okay, he does some pretty shady things, but I feel like he is one of those bad guys, who could have been good, if circumstances had not been against him. And he really believes in the cause and tries to stick to the heart of it, when it starts being about power for the others. And he loves and admires his wife, which is always a good quality in a man.  Best supporting role:  Iko from The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. She is a lovely mix between human and android personality and brings a light note to ...
