Review: Champion - Marie Lu

This is the third and final book in the Legend trilogy by Marie Lu. I can’t say too much without spoiling the other two books, but I will try. At the end I will also write a few words about the short story “collection” (there are only two) “Life Before Legend”, which is also part of the series.   As I said in my review of Prodigy, I felt like the series wrapped up pretty nicely in the second book, and I was wondering what was going to happen in the third. While stuff certainly went down in the third book, I feel like it was a completely different storyline. It felt like the original storyline wasn’t big enough to fill up 3 books, so they decided to plaster a new story line to the tail end of the old one and string it out to a trilogy. That being said, I did really enjoy this book.  The characters weren’t really evolved all that much in this book either, I think, they were pretty much going over the same old dilemmas from the other books.  As for the p...

This is the second book in the Legend series, and while I really enjoyed the first book, it has taken me a while to get around to reading this one.  I really liked this book. There was action, but perhaps not so much character development, as one could wish. And while I enjoyed it, I sometimes found myself struggling to stay focused on the story. I’m not exactly sure why, although I do think it has something to do with the plot. This book is about the assassination attempt of the leader of the government and that involved a whole lot of planning, which meant that the action was pretty slow until the end of the book.  As for the characters I feel like there wasn’t a whole lot of development of Day and June. Tess, and to some degree Anden, were pretty much the only ones we got to know better, and Tess really annoyed me. She was so mean to Day, almost demanding that he kick June to the curb and love her instead, pressuring him by reminding him of all the bad things...

Review: Legend - Marie Lu

Hallelujah!! Finally a book that I liked! AND a series that I will be continuing! I feel like I have read endless amounts of first books of series and not liked them enough to continue the series. But this one I liked so much that I have even bought the entire series! (I got “Legend” from the library).   Legend is about two young people, a boy and a girl, who live in a dystopian world. This world is pretty much California set in the future. We don’t really find out exactly what happened to the world to make it so bleak. But it is run by a dictator and his army who terrorize the people. June, the girl, is a soldier in the army, a wonder child, while Day, the boy, is the most wanted criminal. It is pretty easy to figure out the basic story line, but still it had me riveted.  As for the characters I have seen some complain that June and Day are pretty much the same person. And I guess they are, but I think that is quite interesting, because they grew up in different circ...
