DIY: TBR Jar

DIY: TBR Jar

Finally my first DIY project is here! And I actually managed to finish it! I have been seeing these TBR jars around Youtube, and I thought it was a fun idea to shake up your reading list. Now, I don’t keep a lot of unread books on my shelves, so instead of only using the books I already own, I have printed off my TBR list on Goodreads and stuck it in there. There are 200 book titles in my jar (and I probably should have picked a bigger jar!), so it should last me a while. I will probably keep adding new books to my TBR list, but then I will just have to make a new jar!

The finished jar

How to:

First gather your supplies. I ended up using a bit of fabric and some different stickers, but I accidentally deleted that picture…So consider this inspiration, rather than actual supplies.

Then I cut my fabric to fit the lid of my jar and stuck it on there with glue. This can get a bit messy, so maybe keep a wet cloth to wipe any spills and your sticky fingers when you are done. You can cut “tabs” in the fabric to make it easier to wrap around the edge of the lid.

Then I decorated the jar itself. I used the same glue to stick some butterfly post-its on it to cover the sticky bits from the label, that I was too lazy to wash off. If you want a completely clean jar you can let it to soak in water overnight before you peel off the label. Then I went crazy with the stickers. Feel free to use as many or as few as you want.

I made the tag myself and tied it around the jar with some ribbon, and voila, the jar is done!

As for filling it up, as mentioned I printed off my Goodreads TBR list and cut out the individual book titles, folded them up and stuck them in there. Again, with 200 titles I probably should have picked a bigger jar. They are kind of squashed in, but with a little encouragement it was possible to squish them all in there.

I plan to draw a title from the jar, read that book, and once I have finished it, draw another title. I will probably do reviews on all the books I read from the jar, and I will call them TBR reviews, so you know they are from the jar. At the end of the review I will leave the title of the next book I have drawn out of the jar. As I said, I will probably keep adding books to my TBR shelf, so I might make another jar sometime in the future. I have a vision including mason jars and lace…

But without further ado, let’s draw the first title! Drum roll……..It is “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” by Anita Loos. I have no idea what this book is about, so that should be fun!
