Reading Goals Refresh

We are at the midpoint of the year and I’m starting to see all these reading goals assessment videos popping up on Booktube. People talk through the goals that they set at the beginning of the year and tell us how far they have come and how well they are doing.

This has inspired me to do a little assessment of my own. My only reading goals for this year have been reading 85 books and completing my bingo board challenge. I am 1 book behind schedule as far as reading the 85 books goes, but I have confidence that I will catch that up soon. However, there is no saying that I won’t lag behind again, as work is crazy busy, but I will do my best to keep it up.

As far as my bingo board is concerned I am doing horrendously. I’ve read 3 books out of 20, so that’s pretty dire. I’m hoping this fresh burst on inspiration will help me tick a few more off my list.

You might think that since I am struggling with the two challenges I’ve set myself I shouldn’t start any new ones. But that is exactly what I’m deciding to do. I’ve started the Around the Year in 52 Books Challenge. Here is a link to the Goodreads group: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/174195-around-the-year-in-52-books. Admittedly I have cheated a little and slotted in the books I happen to have read that fit the challenges. And I also decided not to attempt to complete all 52 challenges but instead try and do 20. As of now I’ve done 10 books so I still have some way to go. I might be able to fit in more of my already read ones, but right now I think I will start to search out books to read to fit the challenges, rather than “cheat” with the books I’ve already read. You can see my progress and my books chosen for each challenge here.

Then I am debating whether or not to do Diversity Bingo. I thought it was a really interesting idea when it cropped up around the New Year, but I was lazy and didn’t feel like committing to it at the time. But I’m thinking maybe I will just see how many I can do and maybe carry it over into next year’s reading. I feel like my reading is a bit aimless, and I often end up reading the really popular books or my favorite genres. I don’t really actively search out lesser known books, which often tend to be the diverse one, and I would like to change that. So I think I will give it a go and just see how many challenges I can finish by the end of the year. You can see my progress here
