Blogmas Day 19 - Decorative Gift Wrapping

I usually get all my present wrapped in the shops, because when they ask, I’m too lazy to say no. But this year, in the spirit of getting Christmassy, I decided to do my own wrapping. I think it looks really lovely when all your presents match, and the paper they use in the shops can sometimes be a bit boring.

I went for three different types of paper and a lot of colorful ribbons with cute decorations on them. Then I got some stickers for gift tags, as they are super easy to use, and some extra decorative stickers.

Brown paper really lends itself well to any sort of decorated ribbon, and with a base of brown paper you can’t really go wrong. Colored paper is a bit harder to match ribbon-wise, but when you do it looks great. I didn’t really go too crazy with my wrapping. As I have said before I don’t really have a good eye for matching stuff, so I played it sort of safe. Still, I think it came out looking rather good.

There are a lot of options out there when it comes to wrapping paper, but if you want to keep it simple, you can recycle some of your old newspapers, and wrap your gifts in print. Add a nice ribbon and it will look like a million dollars. And you won’t have half-used rolls of wrapping paper littering your house all year!

Gift tags can be equally diverse. You can use store-bought ones with Christmassy prints, find some stickers like I did, write directly on the the wrapping paper, or if you want to get personal you can print pictures of the recipient and attach these to the gift. This is especially helpful if young kids, who can’t yet read, are distributing the gifts from under the tree.

If you feel like your gifts are looking a bit dull, there are many ways to spice them up a little. Add stickers or cut-out pictures or tie on tree decorations like smaller baubles, paper hearts, a bit of garland or whatever you have lying around that didn’t make it onto your tree.

If you aren’t the best at wrapping you can put your gifts in boxes and tie some ribbon around that and call it a day. You can get really cute boxes and tins in many shops these days. Try Tiger, super markets or craft stores. You can get some with Christmas prints on them, or you can opt for plain ones or ones without holiday-related decorations, if you want the recipient to be able to use the box year round.

I hope you feel inspired to wrap some presents yourself this year. I know I had fun doing it! Happy wrapping!
