Blogmas Day 2 - Advent Calendar

Being grown up my mom doesn’t make my advent calendar anymore. So I decided to make one for myself. Both to keep up my Christmas spirit and as a little treat for myself when the days get dark and dreary.

So I bought some envelopes in a fitting size. I am doing the 24 day calendar so the treats/gifts will be smaller, mostly inexpensive ones. If you want to, you can do the Sunday advent calendar and spend more on those 4 gifts.

I also bought some stickers with the numbers 1-24, since my handwriting is not too decorative. Then I just numbered all the envelopes and started filling them up. Most of it will probably be chocolate, but there are also some inexpensive face masks in there, along with some nail polish, gift cards for smallish amounts, chapstick, small size body lotions and other stuff I happened upon during Christmas shopping.

You can really customize it for the person it’s for. If they are into drawing buy pens, paper, crayons etc. If they like music get them gift cards for iTunes, a cd, a guitar pick, a poster of their favorite band. If they like baking you can get them cute cup cake liners, measuring cups, a wooden mixing spoon. The possibilities are endless depending on preference and budget. And on that note make sure you do have some sort of budget. It can easily get out of hand as you will probably want each present to be super-awesome. But try buying a few awesome presents and then fill up the remaining envelopes with chocolate and other sweets. Everyone loves a sweet treat!

Once all your envelopes are full find some way to hang them. You can tie them to a hanger and hang that a prominent place. You can string a ribbon or string on the wall and hang the envelopes on that using clothes pins or something similar. You can even hang them on a Christmas tree, either your actual one, or you can build one out of wooden planks, or make one from washi tape on the wall and hang them on that. I decided to string some ribbon along my bookshelves and hang them on that using tiny clothes pins. I just taped the ribbon down, but depending on the weight of your combined gifts you might have to tie the ribbon to something to make it sturdier. Note: My gifts turned out to be heavier than expected, so I actually need up tying the string to a cabinet instead.

Once you decide on your mode of display, just sit back and enjoy the anticipation.
