Blogmas Day 22 - Easy DIY Christmas Chocolates

I’m not great in the kitchen, so I wouldn’t say something is easy if it really isn’t. But I just made these chocolates, and it took me maybe 20 minutes. It is very simple, only uses a few ingredients and is fun to do with bigger kids. It includes a bain marie to melt the chocolate, so if there are any smaller kids involved, they can roll the marzipan balls and decorate them after they have been dipped in chocolate.

You will need:

Marzipan
Chocolate
Sprinkles of your choice. I used toasted coconut flakes, chopped almonds and sea salt, but you can use any sort of sprinkles you want. Colored sprinkles, licorice powder, dried edible flowers, any sort of nuts, anything you want really.

Roll the marzipan into small balls. You can make them any size you like, but I like to keep mine small for a good chocolate to marzipan ratio. Melt the chocolate in a bain marie (a bowl over a pan of boiling water) and carefully roll the balls in this until they are covered in chocolate. Transfer them to a baking sheet and while the chocolate is still sticky, put your sprinkle of choice on them. Let the chocolate set and enjoy!

The left over chocolate in the bain marie, you can use to make chocolate bark. I haven’t really tried it before, but I just poured the chocolate onto the baking sheet and sprinkled it with chopped almonds and sea salt. Once it sets, it should be a yummy treat. Be VERY careful when pouring, as the bowl is VERY hot!

If you are giving the chocolates away (or if there are any left to keep for later), put them in a nice tin, separating each layer of chocolates with parchment paper.

This is super easy and very affordable. You can tailor the sprinkles to suit your budget, keeping it simple if you need to save a few bucks. This also makes a great stocking filler or hostess gift, as it is personal, yummy and cheap (but they don’t need to know that!). Put the chocolates in a cute container and they will look like million dollars.
